Yasmine & Scott’s 2nd HypnoBirth. June 2025.
Let me start by saying HypnoBirthing is the wrong name for this in depth guide for yourself and your birth partner to be empowered, educated, calm and confident in bringing your child safely into this world without fear.
Both my labours were text book, pain free, drug free, uncomplicated and very quick. Something that unfortunately hospital staff don't see often these days. However, child birth is a natural process, so why is this so rare? You'll have to read the book and do the classes to find out, and it's mind blowing!
10 years ago, for my first labour, I was 32 years old, and I birthed my daughter in 1 hour and 5 minutes. Drug free, pain free and uncomplicated. You can see why the midwives were telling the student midwife that this is something they may never see again.
My second pregnancy was 10 years later, and at 42 years old, I birthed my son in 52 minutes. No tears. No stitches. No drugs. No pain.
Whenever I tell people I hypnobirthed my two children, it sounds like I did hypnosis. But
HypnoBirthing is so much more.
Unfortunately with childbirth we are taught nothing.
We actually put more time, energy, self learning and preparation into a 60 minute gym workout, than child birth.
Successfully birthing a child without pain, fear, drugs and complications requires preparation.
Think of it like a marathon.
HypnoBirthing classes will teach you to prepare your mind, muscles, body and your birth partner for a calm, drug free, pain free birth (nothing like what you see in the movies!).
Originally my motto was, I hate needles, I hate pain, I don't want to feel anything and I'm going to leave it up to the hospital staff (the professionals) to decide the best course for me.
I can't even say I was misinformed - I was totally uninformed.
It wasn't until one of my students, a midwife training to become a skin therapist, asked me about my birth plan and her simple reply was, “you should look into HypnoBirthing”.
By this stage, I was far along in my first pregnancy and I had missed the HypnoBirthing classes, so my husband and I booked private classes to fast track the process.
10 years ago, there was only 1 HypnoBirthing lady I could find and the hospital didn't know much about this, except for an English midwife. Her face literally lit up when I mentioned HypnoBirthing, because it was already being practiced in the UK.
Fast forward 10 years, and now the hospital offers HypnoBirthing classes and there is a HypnoBirthing teacher in every other suburb.
HypnoBirthing classes also teach you to ignore all the, well meaning, but negative throw-away comments people will tell you. And you will hear a lot! I had an obstetrician tell me at 41 weeks pregnant, my son was going to be over 4kgs and big.
So naturally, when I was in labour, my brain tried to take over with these thoughts of; “he was going to be too big and I would tear”.
But my HypnoBirthing techniques were stronger.
At 42 weeks I naturally and easily birthed my 3.59kg son. After the birth the obstetrician actually texted me saying “your story is something to reflect on, your life experience is inspirational”.
I chose Robina, because she is a practicing midwife, who also lives, breathes and teaches HypnoBirthing. Even though I had done HypnoBirthing for my first child, I wanted to do it all again. Otherwise it's like saying, “I trained for a marathon last year, so I don't need to train again”.
Yes You Absolutely Do.
What really stood out with Robina, is her aftercare. It's not just going and doing her classes and then good luck and good bye. She is always there, just a phone call away, the whole way through your pregnancy.
Even now, 3 weeks after giving birth to my son, Robina calls and texts me, checking in on us both.
I am forever grateful to have learnt this “lost” technique of birthing naturally, as it's something that I now get to pass down to my daughter - not fear and horror stories. But that birth is beautiful, and if given the chance, our bodies know exactly what to do.
